Zain - Year 10 (2025/26)

When I first joined secondary school in Year 7, I found lessons difficult at the start. I didn’t feel mature enough yet and was worried about the challenges secondary school would bring. Everything felt new and a bit overwhelming.

Even though it was hard at first, I kept going. I found teachers I felt comfortable with and could trust, and that really helped. Once I started asking for support, I became more focused and my behaviour choices improved. Over time, I realised I was growing—not just in my learning, but in how I thought and handled things too.

One thing that really helped my confidence was getting involved in activities outside of lessons. I have always loved cricket, and since Year 7 I have been part of the school cricket team. This helped me believe in myself, develop new skills, and realise that if I persevere, I can achieve my best.

I have also been involved in the School Council, where my voice is listened to and I can help improve school life for other students. Through this, I even had the opportunity to visit the Houses of Parliament, which I will always remember.

You might be feeling worried or anxious about joining The Link—and that’s completely normal. I felt that way too. But with support, time and effort, you will grow in confidence and find your place. You are not alone, and things really do get better.
